Krokodil (Desomorphine)

Krokodil is a lethal drug is made from codeine, iodine and red phosphorous,in a relatively simple process similar to the manufacture of tik methamphetamine) from psuedoephedrine like methamphetamine, desomorphine made this way is often highly impure and is contaminated with various toxic and corrosive by products such as gasoline, drain cleaner and sulphur. The street name in Russia for homemade desomorphine is “krokodil”. The high obtained by the use of Krokodil is very intense and much the same as heroin but lasts for a shorter period of about two hours.

Krokodil obtained its name from the greenish scale like skin damage caused by its injection. Krokodil use may also result in massive necrosis (tissue and muscle death) of the flesh around the point of injection, one case in the US reported a patient with a 12 cm wide crater down to bone resulting from a single injection of Krokodil. As with any injected drug the risk of contracting infections such as HIV, hepatitis and other blood borne diseases is high.

Desomorphine is very potent, highly addictive, more sedative and about ten times stronger than morphine and has more addictive potential than morphine or diamorphine (heroin). The life expectancy of a Krokodil addict is estimated to be around two years.

Abuse of homemade desomorphine was first reported in middle and eastern Siberia in the early 2000’s, but has since spread throughout Russia and the neighbouring former Soviet republics, its use has been confirmed among Russian expatriate communities in a number of other European countries. Cases have also been identified in the UK and the US.

Krokodil has been described in Time magazine as the most horrible drug in the world, below this blog  is a link to pictures of desomorphine addicts, if there was ever a drug you should NEVER TRY krocodil is it.
